Smart insurance

Insurance priced on how each person skis

The challenge

Lift ticket insurance costs the same for everyone: careful skiers pay the same as those who go very fast on slopes above their level. And insurers rate on what the customer declares, not on what they do.

What you control
  • Skier scores and falls per score band
  • Each skier's insurance price at lift ticket sale
  • Queries and usage of every insurer
What you get
01

Price before going on the slopes

Bought with the lift ticket, using the history of previous days and seasons.

02

Two clear scores

A behaviour score and a skier score, from 0 to 100, with the reasons in plain words.

03

The resort sets the limits

Normal day and season price, maximum discount and surcharge, and minimum days of history.

04

Data that sells

Insurers query and buy scores and KPIs via API, and every query is recorded.

05

Built for actuaries

Exposure, frequency, severity, relativity and credibility per risk factor.

06

With consent

Without it, normal price and anonymous data only. No positions and a pseudonym per insurer.

How it works

  1. 1

    The device builds the history

While the skier has their normal insurance, every day is measured: how much they ski, how, and what happens to them.

  2. 2

    Every skier gets two scores

A behaviour score and a skier score, from 0 to 100, with their reliability and the reasons in plain words.

  3. 3

At lift ticket purchase, the price adjusts

Before going on the slopes, the resort raises or lowers the insurance with the score, within its limits, if the skier agrees.

  4. 4

    The insurer queries and buys

With its key, it queries the score and KPIs of anyone who gives it consent. Every query is recorded for invoicing.

What the insurer receives

The data an actuary uses to build a rate, measured by the device rather than declared by the customer.

What it includesWhat it is for
HistoryDays and seasons, declared and real level, usual areas, hours, runs and kmKnowing who they are and how much they are exposed
BehaviourSpeed, terrain against their level, off-piste, people around, time of day and visibilityThe risk factors highlighted by ski accident studies
Previous accidentsFalls by severity, time immobile, evacuations and last fallFrequency and severity: what makes a claim expensive
ScoresSkier score, behaviour score, reliability and reasonsA score ready for rating and explainable to the person
PortfolioTables per factor with frequency, relativity and credibility, and falls per score bandBuilding and validating the rate without personal data
Daily conditionsHours of lifts stopped by cause, low visibility and snowfallParametric insurance: automatic payout for closures or bad weather
For the resort
  • Raise or lower the insurance price with the score, within the limits you set
  • Its own normal price for day and season insurance
  • Reward careful skiers and explain to everyone what lowers their score
  • A new revenue stream: insurers pay for every skier they query
  • Without history or consent, the normal insurance is sold
For the insurer
  • Score and KPIs of every insured person before selling the policy
  • Data measured day by day, not declared
  • Portfolio tables with credibility to build and validate the rate
  • API with its own key and a different pseudonym for every insurer
  • Daily conditions for parametric products
Privacy and regulation
  • Only with the skier's consent, for each insurer and for the resort's price, and it can be withdrawn at any time
  • Without consent, only anonymous tables, with no small groups that could identify anyone
  • No positions: usual areas are slopes, never the route
  • Every score explains what lowers it and the person can ask for a human review
  • Sex is not used as a factor
  • Falls are device events, not medical diagnoses

Frequently asked questions

Is the insurance paid after skiing?

No. It is bought with the lift ticket, as always. The price comes from the history of previous days and seasons, when the person skied with normal insurance.

What does someone with no history pay?

The normal price. The adjustment starts once they reach the minimum days of history set by the resort.

And with a season pass?

It uses the same score with its own normal price: the resort sets one for day insurance and another for season insurance.

Who decides the price?

The resort with its insurer: normal price, maximum discount and maximum surcharge. The platform calculates the scores with published, explainable rules.

What does the insurer see?

The anonymous portfolio tables and, for anyone who gives it consent, their history, scores and reasons, with its own pseudonym and no positions.

How do you know the score works?

The dashboard shows falls per 1,000 ski days in every score band. With full seasons and the insurer's paid claims, weights and thresholds are tuned.
